I hear you. I do my best to be a feminist in the world at large. If you want, call it dancing around the issue - but I do feel Cave's music (particularly during this period), follows the trend of storytelling as opposed to endorsement.
But Cave's always been a story-teller that delves into the minds of characters. With the exceptions of the new one and The Boatman's Call (and possibly No More Shall We Part), I think it can be justified with the "depiction ≠ endorsement" scenario. It's clearly a story set-up, which while disturbing, doesn't always create an issue (see: Murder Ballads' frequent use of fucked up violent stories that go so far over the top that it's impossible to consider them as anything but). I don't necessarily interpret Jack the Ripper as a misogynist song, so much as a song that possibly delves into the mind of a misogynist. The song's still disturbing, if ambiguous, of course, but I feel the origins of the disturbing nature are intentional rather than the result of a specific ideology.

Digging this one, I'd say you should probably check Let Love In next, probably the most closely related, even a bit more savage.

My Nick Cave list wasn't really even an effort, honestly. With the exception of Nocturama (which is still a'ight), I love everything Nick Cave, and after hearing Skeleton Tree and watching the documentary, I didn't feel I could get back to writing other things I was working on until I wrote something on my deep abiding love for all stuff Nick Cave.
And hey, if loving music is mad, then lock me the fuck up, I say
