Just got the re-release in the mail today, and the production seems like a muted version of the original. Am I the only one who has noticed this?
In case you read this, no you're not the only one.
As one who heard this first via dl, I was dissapointed by the mix of the remaster. It's weirdly quiet and muddy. Only difference is that the mids have been raised (too much). Also the song 'Undine' is totally butchered in an attempt to give it more dynamic range. On the positive side, one of the two bonus songs, 'Beauty', might be the best unreleased motW song.
This is one of the few cases, if not the only, where the remaster is inferior to the original. I definitely prefer the trebly and at times raw production to the updated one. Thus I have spent some time tracking down the original 1999 release on cd and was lucky to find it.

Any hints on where to find it that aren't incriminating?
I can say that I have only heard the re-release. My "legal download" came with this album that
includes Beauty, leading me to believe it's the re-release. Now I'm excited that there's a better-
mixed original version!
Edit: Two minutes later and I've tracked it down. That was fast.
Edit: Yep. Not sure if it's a placebo effect, but the original album sounds a lot more clear and
dynamic in range compared to this alleged remaster..

Good to hear that I'm not alone on this. Undine and Underwater Flowers sounds so much nicer in its original form. It's almost non-existent on the re-release. Yeah the original album is a lot more clear/trebly and raw (some call it bad production *roll eyes*) but imo that's one of the things that oddly enough adds to it.

SO has anyone noticed that last(ish) riff in Ferocious Weights is the Willy Wonka Imagination song melody? It gives me the most pleasant aura of otherworldly nostalgia.
