This is a great album, but I like Filosofem more, because it's so minimal. The main problem with this one (aswell as "early" Burzum albums) are the vox. I like the parts where Varg screams gravelly, but I hate the "high screeching" parts because they sound so strange, I find it very hard to take them seriously. And that's not a good thing when listening to Burzum, because Burzum is about dark atmosphere and not unintentional comedy.

I know many people will disagree with me, but that's the way I feel. I wish I could take those vocals seriously. This Message Edited On 12.25.06

Burzum is probably the best black metal band ever. What he said about Varg being racist and hateful but yet able to create a masterpiece is true. I love this album.

This is still the greatest album of all time. It's so moving. This is one of the few albums that have almost brought a tear to my eye while listening to it. This Message Edited On 04.05.07

The atmosphere on this album is magnificent... I rated a 5 not because its the rawest, or because of Varg's notoriety, but because after listening to his albums and looking at the lyrical translation - he translated his visions into musical art form the best.

The vocals are offputting. I can't understand how people can say it's 'moving' when it is mostly just him screeching really really weirdly.

But otherwise....I liked it! :D

Because it fits the music and production so well.

His screaming is extremely emotional. Some people like it. Most people don't. I happen to like it, but I admit that I didn't like it at first.

Lots of great music takes some getting used to, though. This Message Edited On 04.17.07

I agree that his early vocal work takes time to grow, but once it grows on you, you can't help but love it. Mainly because it is so damn unique and... yes emotional.
