This is so damn good. These guys do concept albums like no other. They lyrics seriously blow me away...

Yeah the lyrics are awesome. Especially the title track. I love this band. I recall someone saying the singer had a whiny voice . . . what an idiot.

I remember someone telling me about a year ago to check out Porcupine Tree and I listened to to a couple of the songs off of "Deadwing" and dismissed them. After reading other recommendations from the people on this site about Porcupine Tree, I decided to give them another try. I just listed to "Fear of a Blank Planet" a second time through and I now know why everyone highly recommends this band. The songwriting, mixing, producing, etc. is top notch. Now I'm going to go back and check out "Deadwing" and listen to what I've been missing out on. Thanks Sputnik! (again...)This Message Edited On 07.29.07

Deadwing is PT's best album that ive heard, i only own In Absentia, Deadwing, and this though, and they have 6 other albums...but Deadwing really is amazing.

This album has a few too many weak spots to be considered as good as Deadwing, In Absentia or Stupid Dream.

For some reason the outro for Way Out Of here really irks me.

Only problem I have w/ this album is the transitions between some of the softer and heavier parts/songs. I like this cd a lot more than Deadwing and In Absentia just b/c... idk, it just feels a lot more solid as a whole. I liked some songs on the other two but it didn't flow that well, plus some songs on those cds actually sounded less natural than the songs on this to me. Err... not less natural, but like after a couple listens, it seemed too cliche... maybe the poppiness was doing it but not directly? Idk. All I know is I didnt dig some of the highlight tracks from them, but Lightbulb Sun is still my favorite, along w/ this one.

I agree, you pretty much just went off on a hate trail with sentimental without really explaining why much.
It seems to me that alot of this album's atmosphere is lost on you, and you never at any point remark on how well the album blends together.
You are WAY too critical of the end of sentimental, which I don't think you would be if you gave it a chance and thought about why Steven Wilson chose to re-use this riff here.
My Ashes is the weakest point of this album, and you would be far better off looking at the album from the view of those that can better get into the feel of the album.
Hence, I have to say that i disagree with this review and don't find it well written.
