yea, it always takes a while for hardcore to grow on me.
This isn't hardcore but you could call it that in general.

Very good review. This album has good and bad sides. It can be good for many reasons. One of them being Jeff's matured voice over years of mastering and perfecting his vocals. Also, you can feel the emotion in this cd and their is some songs with a few breakdowns and in other songs break downs are absent. There isn't one bad song on this cd in my opinion. All of the songs are beautiful in their own way. Whether its agression or beautiful emotional parts of songs, PTW rarely fail to impress their fans. Some fans though, for example fans of PTW's "Opposite Of December" cd won't appreciate this cd as much. This cd is much different and many people will claim that Poison The Well only released one good cd; TOOD. TOOD is their best cd in my opinion and in many other peoples opinions. In an exclusive interview with Derek from PTW, he states that TOOD wasn't their strongest feeling cd where as "you come before you" was a strong cd and they felt confident with it. In the bands opinion, YCBY, a three month project, is their best work and most accurate representation of them so far. But for fans of you who fell in love with TOOD and didnt like any other releases to date, STAY AWAY FROM THIS! This has little to no breakdowns. This is a good cd but some Emo-core or just metalcore fans might say otherwise. Again, PTW dont dissapoint but please be advised that each cd is a whole new surprise each time. PTW are always good but alot of the time they are changing their sound. O boy...... I can't wait for their new ALBUM!!!!!

Good album, an oasis away from generic metalcore.

This album is just overall good. And for me personally the best of PtW that I heard so far. I could not point out a song that is really weak or that annoys after a while (which I can not say about 'Tear from the red' for example).

My favorite tracks would be 'Meeting again for the first time', 'The Realist', 'Apathy is a cold body' and 'Ghostchant'

4 - 4.5/5

I like this album, but I only wish the screaming was higher like in their previous albums.

It's different from their other stuff. Their fist three albums are straight up metalcore. Breakdown, Clean Part, Breakdown. They are still amazing but don't compare to this album. You Come Before You is more of a mix of metal, post-hardcore and tiny bits of metalcore. I'd say go with this, especially if you dig "Ghostchant." You'll love it.

I like this album a lot but it will never have as much meaning for me as The Opposite of December. That album is one of those few that I can really say changed my life. It came to me at the right time and probably saved me from one of the darkest points of my life and realy shaped me as a person. It sounds cheesy I know but I honestly can't exagerate just how much that album means to me.

Poison the Well are one of my favorite bands of all time and this album just adds to their legacy, they've all but reinvented themselves and it doesn't suck. I'm seeing hordes of Hardcore bands trying a softer style and almost all of them have screwed it up. PTW took all of the beauty and meaning from their harder albums and changed the style without hurting the artform. I can't wait to hear their new album!

man i love this cd. They have matured so much with this one. Ive had this cd for a long time and have not gotten tired with it yet. I really dont have a favorite song or songs, there all pretty much on the same level. Jeffs vocals are amazing, his scream is one of the best out there to me.

"Never allowed to point that finger, never allowed to point that finger" : Crystal lake lyric excerpt that i found humerous

when does the new album come out? This Message Edited On 09.12.05

Wow, I've only just got this album...it took me a while to get around to it, and it's taken me a week or two to actually start getting into it. It's really good stuff though, the vocals are pretty awesome most of the way through as well as the instrumentation - it's not always the most technical of playing, but it's very effective.

The first thing I noticed though is the 'denseness' of the whole album, especially in some of the slower songs and 'Sounds Like The End Of The World'

"Sounds Like The End Of The World" is so incredible. The way it gets so dark at the end after being all light and melodic.

This album has no filler or bad songs... The screaming is really powerful, and the music is just... heavy but beautiful (Meeting Again For The First Time & Apathy Is A Cold Body for examples)... Most people said they are a metalcore band... Well, they were.. But this album proves that they are capable of so much more... Not too say that their previous albums aren't good aswell, though.. But this album really does it for me..

Imagine what the next album is gonna be like. For me, this album was a very sweet set up. I like the direction. You nailed this review of the music so tightly. nice. : )

I really can't decide if I like TOOD or YCBY better. YCBY is absolutely beautiful. Each song is filled with so much passion and emotion. Can't wait for their next album, anyone know anything about it?

I never did like this CD. It was a terrible dissapointment on first listen and has only grew on me marginally since its release.

I wish they never released it.
