And you gave it a 4?(not a cut, just weird)

Ya, mainly because of the significance of this album on the Swedish Metal scene, I give them a lot of credit for helping develop the melodic death metal genre.

I love melodeath=I love ATG.

As if it hasn't been said enough, they influenced A LOT of bands. And A LOT of those bands I just happen to enjoy listening to *cough*The Absence*cough*. Whether you like them or not, or think they're overrated, they were a large part in orchestrating the development of a genre.

And robin2220, how can you "dislike them for what they started"? I find that statement somewhat hypocritical. You just commented on one of my lists: "2 is heart". 2 is The Absence (which is one of your favorited bands). ATG was a huge influence for them.

Melo-death can be complete sh*t, but there are a lot of good bands that do it right.

Which reminds me, thanks ZooYorker for having that avatar cause that prompted me awhile back to look into the Absence. :thumb:

Okay, well I'll take The Absence out of the million of other bands At The Gates influenced. Now what?

De Lirium's Order, Insomnium, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy (plus Angela is mass hot), and My Own Grave are all ace. Plus the Absence.

Arch Enemy can play but they don't make very many good songs if you ask me.

SOH, I'll send you the title track (unless you don't want it) so you can get the proper perspective of Riders of the Plague (because the singles don't really show it off).

robin2220, I meant no disrespect. I was just trying to improve your opinion enough to give ATG a chance.

Oh dude, I got Riders of the Plague...it's pretty darn good. I was thanking you for reminding me to look into them with your avatar (I noticed it a long time ago).

I like At The Gates a bit more then my comment may have suggested. This album specifically is what I meant when I said overrated. It's just so blatantly average.

It's a bit simpler, that's probably why you don't care for it as much.

Do you like Terminal Spirit Disease?

I like that album more, though this and Terminal Spirit Disease are the only ones I own.

I thought you'd like that a little bit more, it always came across as being a bit more technical/complex than Slaughter of the Soul, though it did vaguely show off what was to come next (on this album).
