discog walk start; visit on Remastered 2020 Box ed. Interesting debut by a master band of the new wave style(electro/synth/alt). This shit came out in 1981, it was basically futuristic [2], agreed "Big Muff/Tora!Tora!Tora!" are perfect examples of that. And then they started releasing better albums [2], indeed. Such a unique band. Much love for them.

I remember downloading "Photographic" all those years ago and thinking it was a fun albeit maybe corny song. Happy to know that I got lucky and picked one of the the best songs from the album to download off Napster or whatever P2P service I was using at the time. I didn't really start seriously listening/investing into Depeche until well.....

"if you can make it through this you deserve some great reward" That line just made me burst out laughing. That's the oldest Mode album I have. I am going to take the 'Speak and Spell' challenge right now. Let's see how cheery/dated and cheesy this album sounds today. Since it's easier than ever to hear music especially when youtube started rollin' full speed ahead. I had just been playing dark ambient stuff but these mixes weren't really grabbing me.

So where's my damn reward?! I completed the challenge. This upload to youtube apparently started looping when it ended (and didn't have "Just Can't Get Enough", I heard that song enough anyway I know what that's about). Definitely don't think anyone is missing anything by skipping this album. "New Life" isn't bad kinda catchy. I actually wanted to hear "Puppets" again (so I don't mind that this is playing again the first three or four songs anyway) It just sounded really interesting and darker to me, compared to most of the album it didn't really have any real cheese to it and didn't sound incredibly dated. That's my favorite on this album for sure. Kinda surprised how much I like it. Even "photographic" while certainly not bad at all wasn't as good as I remembered. "Nodisco" was interesting at times but other than that, there really isn't much to this album. I'll play "Puppets" some more if I think of it, but that's really about it.

I also had to mention "What's Your Name." I just started laughing so much when that song came on. That's like some baby bopz shit recorded on an actual speak (sing) and spell toy. Really bad, it did invoke laughter so there was that at least. It was so pretty. I think I would just give it a 2 - 2.5. Truthfully probably a 2 but "Puppets" really surprised me. So there's that I never thought I would play this album tonight.

144 minutes? I knew it was long but wow that's longer than I thought. I definitely won't take that challenge tonight or maybe ever haha I'd rather try to beat a level of the AVGN videogame without dying.
