I actully don't get why people dislike Oil And Water so much. The second half of the song is fantastic, with a pretty impressive buildup. Diamonds and Coal is meh, but thats about it. This album suprised the Incubus fanbase in general I think, looking at other comments and remarks.

haha...that's ironic.
I just gave this album a listen (granted, only one, hence why I haven't ranked it)
I thought the first half was really weak. 'A Kiss to Send Us Off' annoyed the hell outta me.
I thought Oil and Water was the best song I've heard off of it initially.
But the last songs really picked it up...I like Paper Shoes as well.

They seem to pull off the softer ballad-like songs better. Brandon's voice seems a bit weak and high for the harder and more rocky songs, IMO. They should stick with making songs like 'Anna Molly', 'Love Hurts', 'Oil And Water',etc.

Jason, have you listened to older Incubus? If not, this is the first album with more ballad based songs, and not so much distortion and rocking out (for lack of a better term).

Yeah, Brandon's voice has changed quite a bit over the past 3 records or so. Back in the day, he could do some pretty intense singing.

I liked A Crow Left Of the Murder quite a bit. I think i'll be checking this out pretty soon.

I still love Brandon's voice, but it was definitely better back in the Make Yourself days.

definitely better than ACLOTM.

disturbing relelation:
i ripped this album to Media player...

I love Incubus, but this album sucks.

This album is rather disappointing to say the least. Quicksand should be longer, and A Kiss To Send Us Off would be 10x better if they just took out the "A kiss to send us off! A kiss to send us off!" part. ACLOTM > Light Grenades. The only two songs I find that stand out are Paper Shoes and Dig.
And does anybody else think Love Hurts is a poor remake of Drive? This Message Edited On 12.02.06

After listening to this album quite often for the last 2 or 3 weeks (I got it early), I gotta say its a * bit of a *disappointment (despite my initial fairly enthusiatic review to the contrary). Its better than Crow which I really didnt like but its very far from vintage incubus as someone else mentioned. Some songs like Anna Molly have really grown on me alot to the point where Id say its among their top 10 songs, whilst Dig, Love Hurts and Rogues are also great. The rest is getting old
Id rank the studio albums-
Morning View
SCIENCE
Make Yourself
Light Grenades
Crow Left Of The Muder

I think in comparison to their other c.d.'s this album really falls short. I love Incubus, they are undoubtedly my favorite band and I'm actually pretty dissapointed with this. They've resorted to an album solely on relationships and the lyrics are madeningly simple. They barely scratch the surface of anything. Especially Oil and Water and Diamonds and Coal like you said. They're capable of so much more.

disappointing albums generally result in being rated somewhere around a 3

I was pretty dissapointed with CLOTM, so I was hoping for a better cd from incubus this time around. IMO this cd was better than CLOTM, but it deffinatly falls short of Make Yourself, SCIENCE, and Fungus Amongus (my favorite incubus cd)

I don't think the relationship-based lyrics are so bad. There are some terribly cliche moments (Love Hurts), but Anna Molly, Dig, and Quicksand all have some great lines. Earth to Bella also isn't that bad. I mean, did Drive or Wish You Were Here have the best lyrics?

I found the lyrics in Earth to Bella to actually be pretty good. It's the music that I can't stand in that one.
