I don't think they have been as crushing heavy as some songs on SNW, White Pony and ATF. Ohms isn't particularly heavy but it's definitely the heaviest since DE, and very comparable with self-titled in terms of riffs and screams. Koi No Yokan and Gore are their softest, for sure.

Lmao some of the straight up misquoting in this thread is ridiculous.
Other than a sound-off, in which that user isn't even participating in this thread, no one has called this their heaviest album in years.
It has sections of heaviness ('This Link is Dead' being a perfect example; In which I would take the last 40-seconds of that song and put it up against the heaviest moments of DE, KNY, or Gore for that matter). And then it also has 'The Spell of Mathematics' and 'Headless', which slower pacing aside, still features some heavy ass riffing and just an overall monstrous sound.
I don't do the whole dick measuring contests between albums. I loved DE and KNY equally. And they're probably more to my palette in terms of the inclusion of their signature sound with the more modern shoegaze elements. However, objectively speaking, there are absolutely moments of 'Ohms' that are done better than anything on those two albums.
These guys went into the studio just looking to have everyone equally involved, and it paid off massively. Calling the album an improvement over Gore isn't enough. Just showing up to work with Terry Date was going to guarantee that. But there's enough inspired song writing and experimentation sprinkled throughout Ohms that allows it to contend with anything they've released in the last ten years.

I'm scared I'm going to break down and blast the album in 320 before it comes out.

Says the guy constantly needing to remind everyone that he doesn't like the album as much as other people and that they're already overrating it.

Is this guy normally such a confrontational douche? Or is it just disagreements about Deftones that makes him foam at the mouth?
I gave the album a 4, I just said I think some users are overeating it by slapping a 5 on it after an evening or 2 of spinning and especially because people are saying it might be their best or top 3.

There's really not much of a difference between flac and 320, except that flac is like 3 times the file size

On second listen now. I think it's my favourite production work since, well, the last Trry Date produced tones record. It captures the angsty ambience that they do so well. I said this before but it really reminds me of Hum's latest in that regard. A throwback to the 90s but done with a fresh spin. Love it.

Absolutely, lucman. Like I said before, this is probably the best-produced tones album to date.
