Nothing wrong with progressive Tool if they keep it interesting. Third Eye is a great example, song feels like 4 minutes.

Tool’s inarguable high point in regards to straight to the point aggression goes is The Grudge. Top 5 Tool and their best opener (which is saying a lot considering Intolerance, Stinkfist and Vicarious are some of their best songs).

Hard agree with the comments about not liking Tool's "progressive" tendencies. Whether that's the best way to express the criticism or not, I totally get it.

But as far as Tool songs go, Lateralus t/t >>> every other Tool song

That song is their defining high point as a band. Their masterpiece.

Vicarious, The Pot & Rosetta Stoned get tiresome at points. Intention moving into Right in Two is fuggin legendary. So yeah, whilst great I find this to be the most uneven tool effort.

I dunno why the fan base goes HAM for Rosetta when Third Eye is better overall.

Why are they comparable again? Because they're both about hallucinogens? They're completely different songs...

I would be more comfortable if the sample in the album version is that of salival. The laughs at the end of the music and drugs fragments kills the vibe of the song for me. I find the "think for yourself question authority" more suitable. But that's just me.

at least the Bill Hicks version makes them sound like they don't take themselves as seriously

For those saying the new album is only gonna be a 3.5 or so, you should check out the early responses. People are going fucking nuts over this album and calling it a masterpiece. And for those who were Disappointed by Fear Inoculum, many are saying it’s the worst track on the album.
