The Pot does indeed rule but I understand disliking it. I really didn't like it for the longest time. I didn't like Maynard's higher pitched vocals, it felt too instrumentally empty when the bass was carrying the verses without the guitar, and the lyrics felt stupid. And, well, "fatty fingers" is still an absolute clanger, oof, but the first two issues ceased to be issues at some point.

Ok, but don’t get me wrong: The Pot is still a 3.5/4 song. The fact that it’s one of my least favorites and I still rate it that high is a testament to how good these guys are and how much of a Tool fanatic that I am. I don’t know, it’s just a lot less interesting of a song compared to their other stuff imo.

It’s one of the only songs on this album that doesn’t overstay its welcome

Fucking Facts. I cannot not get through the 10k tracks and Intension is also meandering without a really interesting idea, would much rather listen to the Disposition to Triad stretch

The Pot is one of my favorites on here [2]
Increasingly as far as Tool goes, I avoid anything more "progressive" in nature. Give me some The Pot, Intolerance, Stinkfist, etc.

I was telling in the tool reddit, that everytime I listen to this album I think of naruto, because I discovered both things at the same time.

This. By the progressive definition of unnecessary instrumentals and pointless BS, which this album is full of. Which is why The Pot is actually great. Vicarious too. Tool stand out cause they didnt do stupid shit like they started doing here and sure as hell will do on the new one (happens in the second half of the new song)

Vehemently disagree with many of the last few posts. Angry, short and to the point Tool is awesome, but they got even better when they went more progressive re Aenima, Lateralus and 10k Days.

Aenima and to a lesser extent lateralus dont suffer from what im talking about. theyre purposeful and composed as songs with neat experimentation, which removes them from being typical prog music. they dont drum on bongos for 15 minutes while jones solos in a talk box

Seeing as you still gave it a 4 it couldn’t have hurt the album too much
This is still my least favorite though despite it having grown on me the last few days
I also checked that “hidden track” where you combine a few songs and I think it’s some bullshit

my 4 is a bit too high, i rated this years ago

This is definitely their weakest release. A formless, directionless retread of the Lateralus sound with none of the excitement or intrigue. I literally get nothing out of listening to it.

I don’t know man, this may not be as good as Aenima or Lateralus, but it’s not THAT far off. I don’t get bored with it or feel it outstays it’s welcome. Wings Pt I is somewhat meh for me and the interludes kinda suck here unlike the ones on Aenima/Lateralus, but I find it to be purposeful, invigorating, fascinating and powerful.
We (and many others here seemingly) will just have to agree to disagree.

I am banning myself from checking the 10k Days thread from here on out. For my own health and sanity.

Man idk why but listening to this after Undertow, Aenima and Lateralus just sorta killed any interest I ever had in Tool putting out music again lmfao. Dudes need to get off the pipe, stop slapping the djembe and take a songwriting class from their 25 year old selves.
