"Did these guys jam jazz?"

All rock musicians jam jazz at some moment, and the reason they do this is to contemplate how inferior to jazz players they truly are

Neil Peart requested lessons from Freddie Gruber, in the year 2000, because he wanted to become a better drummer

How's that for some perspective?!

But was that so that he could become a 'better drummer' or so that he could learn jazz drums? I'm sure he could teach one or two things about rock drumming to Gruber

He wanted to become a better drummer and continuously challenge himself in Rush. It was all about what his hands and arms were doing in between every single beat or motion, not so much the beat itself. They compared it to 'dancing', with the contact with the skins being secondary....

Just bumped my rating to a 4.5. It’s my least favorite of the band’s classic period, but it’s still so good that it deserves such a high rating

yeah it's weird to say "least favorite" during this period because their worst is much better than most bands' peaks

"Honestly, 4.5'ing this is an insult"

Not to say it's not possible, but I don't ever see myself 5'ing this. It's a fantastic album, but a few songs (notably On the Run and Any Colour You Like) don't quite do a lot for me

Money is easily my least favorite here. Part of that has to do with the fact that I've heard the song 1000 times.
