@KILL: To help ruin your day: there's a new hit song called Marvin Gaye by that shitty Meghan Trainor chick, so most people my age will probably think of that song before the actual artist.

Okay, just heard all of "La Villa Strangiato" and....
That was the best Rush song I've ever heard by far, which is kind of a bad thing because it's totally because it was an instrumental, then again I didn't really love YYZ... eh whatever the bass on it was really cool, but it doesn't really wanna make me wanna check Hemispheres because Geddy's voice is all over the other 3 songs, right?

hell just stop there. i dont need you bringin down the hemispheres average

rush was my first prog band, as someone who was like "keyboards are gay, RIP cliff and dime" for years rush was just the easiest way to get into prog cause theyve got hooks and hard rock backbone. if youve already heard all the obscure shit rush will probably sound "amateur"

i was into music early, thats why my taste is sweet. someone who hears the beatles at 18 is wanting to hate them to piss off their parents, i wasnt bogged down by queef or fashion

Honestly, when I was 11 I ONLY listened to the Beatles, it was pretty annoying now that I think about it, still love The Beatles of course though.

and i mean i know most people like the beatles but in my circle theyre considered like gay old man music or teenage girl pop but people wont take the time to listen to the white album

My circle of friends loves them, they have pretty good taste mostly... even though 1 of them can't enjoy some thing that cameout after 1980 unless it's a jam band or associated with a jam band.

i mean i get along with my friends on most metal, and me and johnny have prog and fusion in common along with electronic shit
but when it comes to the 60s they act like its all flower power grateful dead shit

I really can't stand The Grateful Dead, my dad's a legit Dead Head, he saw them over 80 times back in the day (And this is only counting the times when Jerry was alive, if you count all Grateful Dead related concerts he's been to I don't even know...)
and yeah the 60s was such a diverse time, it's hard to really put the era in such a small box

im not a dead fan either, i enjoy some of the jams here and there from the late 60s, as well as their jazzier period of like 74-77ish but when ive tried to jam them i just end up bored aside from snippets of good shit here and there
hell i probably like phish more cause theyre closer to fusion-y stuff but theyre not a good band either
