I prefer Alternative to Eternity but I guess you're right

When I think of Anathema I tend to just think of 'nu Anathema' tbh - they're the band I've seen live 3 times, I only started listening to them in 2000 or 2001, etc

They're sort of the opposite of Paradise Lost who I can only really picture as the 90s version

alternative is better than eternity, but silent enigma beats both

They've been in their '10s groove for a while now, so I guess that figures. I got lucky; the one time I saw them was when they were playing the career retrospective Resonance tours with past members, so all eras got stuck together in my memory
Silent Enigma beats Alternative but not Eternity, looks like we've got a cute standoff going on here lol

I also saw the Resonance tour yeah, it was fun - the original singer was classic, his day in the sun, could tell he was enjoying it

Yeah haha, his stage presence was huge - felt much more of a classic frontman than Vincent. Were you at the Shepherd's Bush show by any chance?

I went with my good buddy Hasan (steady now sput, not THAT 'goes crazy' Hasan) and yeah we were maybe slightly nearer the left side, bit closer to the bar (you need to be near-ish to a bar)

Johnny I mention Oceansize on the previous page. I suppose Destroyer is a good contender, though Kaputt and Rubies are their only ones I'd call outstanding, mainly Kaputt.

Interesting debate about Anathema. I'd say they're mainly a 21st century outfit given how prolific they've been and how great Day to Exit, Natural Disaster, WHBWH, and Weather Systems are. It's close since they also made four excellent albums in the '90s too. Sometimes I forget how old that band is.

Oops so you do (got distracted by the many other shiny names ;])! Hooray for Hasan and the bar; I think it's probs easiest to say that Anathema are a band for our times, whatever times those happen to be...

This may be their best... I don't think he likes The National too much.
