I would also agree that melodeath and death metal can be very far apart, but the dm realm is quite varied anyway. Ulcerate is death metal, but so is Children of Bodom and so is Autopsy. They sound very different.

I don't consider COB dm at all. Melodeath with lots of neoclassical and power metal mixed in. Thats not dm to me, but thats just my opinion lol.

I mean when it comes to accessible but brutal bdm this album takes the cake. I know in metal 'accessible' is a slur but this album first got bdm on my radar.

yeah this album has a strange quality of being ultra brutal and uncompromising but also somehow really accessible to your average metalhead/music enjoyer. ive known several people who aren’t really into death metal or even really metal at all who somehow love this.
