I grew up in southern California in the 90s with and around all those bands. Let me tell you something about them, they're the type of bands that never get big because they are just good enough to be underground local bands, but not good enough to leave their little followings. Helmet? Neurosis? Come on, this guy is a full on scene kid - never made it so he shits on everyone who did. I swear to god hooker with a penis was written for guys like him. I promise you, he's heard of tool, he just cant let on or his hipster friends will take his IPA away from him.
Helmet.... there's a band I haven't heard in a long long while. Nobody's heard anything but Betty and we havent even thought about that album since 1994!

Also, I saw Albini's band Shellac last year at Primavera and walked away after two songs, it was just a bunch of noise.

I cannot imagine being a Tool fan and being this snobby about Helmet. They have such a similar rhythmic foundation. Even some Neurosis albums have some rhythmic similarities. Like dude I promise you you'll also like those bands

I agree with you Yowi, Shellac is trash, yeah, my ex was into them and I always was disgusted by it. All bands in that list are subpar as well. I don't know Steve Albini and I don't know why he's important? but it's easier than ever to call him a monkey.

Shellac is somehow both even more of an incel band and 7even times better than Tool at the same time and quite frankly they deserve a medal for this

Shellac's Riding Bikes is the very worst song I heard in the last 10 years. And that's saying a lot, considering Black Midi and Taylor Swift exists.
