"Chuck was an absolute innovator, a craftsman of music itself. Metal and its subgeneres would be nowhere near where they are without him."
Well, yes and no. He did a big thing, pushing death metal into somewhat foreign territory, as well as creating music that would help bump up the death metal genre into a somewhat bigger status (although Cannibal Corpse can be much more attributed to that). However, Death is, well death metal. They didn't revolutionize, post-metal, black metal, folk metal, heavy metal. No, just death metal. Also, you probably owe more thanks to Atheist and Cynic than you do to Death, because before Chuck began jamming with Cynic and Atheist he wanted death metal to be pure and to never stray from its original path. It was those two bands that really changed his line of thinking and made him appreciate forward-thinking music more.

death, possessed and morbid angel are pretty much the fore fathers of death metal, they are the ones that pushed metal in general into new territories since they used thrash metal as their foundation and built off it, changing metal into something much more extreme, their influence must never be understated.

Death influenced death metal, thrash metal, prog metal, and fusion bruh
Oh, and I'm not saying Chuck was an all-out god, I'm saying his spin on metal has really brought perspective, even when compared to Atheist and Cynic
