"As you listen to Tool's masterclass of art-house metal - Lateralus, you have to shed that part of your music taste which is no longer necessary. Otherwise it accretes around you, holds you down, and you perish sooner than you should. I think that’s in large part because, if you don’t dispense with your inapt opinions as you experience Lateralus, then the stress of all those flawed perceptions turns into a kind of chaos around you. That chaos puts you in a state of psychophysiological emergency preparedness, chronically, and that just ages you... like Johnnyofthewell, which in 2021 still stares into the well, unable to find his true self, akin to a flawed Narcissus figure. It’s necessary, in some sense, to listen to this analytically on audiophile headphones, and also, I think, to renew your commitment to your aim upward. Spiral out, keep going."
