If Jane Doe/You Fail Me didn’t come before this, I think it would be more well regarded in the discog. So many straight up amazing moments here

Agreed with that. I think the weight of expectation hurt this somewhat. I mean it did for me on release, but it also makes sense from a going thru their discog chronologically / retrospectively point of view.

I’ve been doing the discog run too! Definitely agree with your point and it didn’t help Axe followed this up also. Still an excellent record on its own merits. The title track to Grim Heart is an insane run really showing the band’s range

"Grim Heart/Black Rose is amazing and I have no idea why people shit on it so much"
That song is one of the crowning achievements in their career imo absolutely outstanding

If you dig Grim Heart please check out Only Living Witness. Legendary Boston band whose vocalist does a guest spot on that track. They sound like Alice In Chains with hardcore riffs

It’s fuckin sick, tyvm
What other projects is he involved with? Because he drastically developed his vocals from Only Living Witness to this… like this sounds much more clean and, idk, more palatable to maybe a more mainstream audience? Which isn’t shit talking, I think how smooth his vocals come across is a good counter to how vicious Jake sounds
