those opening lines hit hard, and then when the riff finally hits ooooooh man
I rewinded the intro three times on the first listen, it's so fucking good

This album is so perfect. It just keeps getting better and better.

Holding a 4.5 after 150+ ratings is insane. Never thought I'd see that here again

this album earns it, this will go down as one of music's greatest comebacks i don't doubt
i realize it isn't technically a 'comeback' but given the circumstances i think it counts

I do like how this is a bit like getting a new Neurosis and a new ISIS album all at once. Great second listen of this.

Yeah seeing this at #1 on the all-time post metal charts on sput is crazy. Probs won't stay there but I'll savour the moment while it lasts.

It very well could stay there tbh.

Having never listened to this band, I literally pulled it up simply because I wanted ISIS-era Aaron Turner. Sumac is a huge miss for me, but this is like ISIS got done with Wavering Radiant and were like, "all right but what if I was really pissed off instead?"
"First Red Rays" could easily fit on Oceanic.

your name is Christbait and you've never listened to Neurosis? maybe it's just me, but even if they're different genres, Godflesh and Neurosis go so well together. listen to Through Silver in Blood after this please

You're 100% right. It's why I love ISIS so much without realizing the how interconnected their sound was to Neurosis and Godflesh.
I'm making more of an effort as I get older to stop being so rigid in what I assume are my likes and dislikes. Neurosis was never a band that piqued my interest because I had bands like ISIS who filled that post-metal hole. I'm probably one of the least flexible listeners on this site when it comes to giving new music a try. I can't digest it as easily and as quickly as others so I tend to stick with the music I'm familiar with. This album is a great example of why my rigidity is a net loss lol

In your case I'd say work your way backwards with Neurosis from here. Listen to Fires Within Fires, Honor, Given, Eye, A Sun, Sovereign... in that order. Their latter career stuff is far more digestible than the early stuff.

you have a point that it's more digestible, but it's not necessarily better haha. Times of Grace, A Sun That Never Sets or The Eye Of Every Storm would be a good starting point I guess
