Don't really get the divisive claims here, I actually find the reception fairly normal for a trending metal album. There's a lot more higher ratings than there are lower ones, especially the 4's/4.5's making up a sizable majority of them judging from the chart. Maybe I have a different definition of divisive, idk

sorta like last years horrendous record... this is solid but nothing more. does everything perfectly but also doesn't really elicit any sort of reaction beyond that?
jammed this i think four times now and i remember absolutely nothing about it 30 seconds after its done

^^^I mean, isn't that the nature of tech death though? The riffs and grooves are so short and there's so many of them that it's hard to keep them in your head.
The recent Archspire album is arguably a bit more memorable than this, but even that fades after a couple of days not listening to it. Whereas I have a bunch of Opeth riffs in my head for life.
However, the experience each time I spin this is mind-blowing so I don't really care if I don't remember stuff, I just spin it again.

Horrendous's latest had very memorable moments for me. It didn't quiiiiiiite consistently deliver, at least not for the duration (and peaked sooner than I'd have liked), but many individual elements and passages were pretty damn distinct

It's in the spacing, the tempo, the dynamics etc. (I mean most metal fails at the latter these days and Horrendous didn't quite nail it either, yet compared to this it was easily more varied)

i just feel like its... too comfortable in its own skin? its not completely jumping the shark like archspire (this clears anything i've heard from them but at least they're really swinging)... its not messy or unpredictable like the new hoplites... and like demon said its not nearly as dynamic as the 90s albums its drawing influence from
album is an exercise in perfect execution but i ultimately like this sound better when its a little more rough around the edges

He also never really listened to one I mean be rates 487 albums a day I doubt he actually jams them all. 30 seconds in and not "trv" equals automatic 1.5.

Yeah, after the first few times, I couldn't be bothered to even get worked up anymore by the ridiculous things he says. It's a delicate balance between reasonable and utterly out of pocket that has the most staying power. Smok just stays out of pocket, so it just feels like a stale bit. For instance, Colton's much better at pushing my buttons.
