I hold As the Palaces Burn as their best but this and Ashes are both great albums.

So many riffs, but they're not all equally exciting. Redneck is fun though, some of the singy screamy parts are a bit too much for me. The way these guys make their instruments sound is awesome to me, love how they sticked to it for so long lol

Album has very high highs, and a bunch of mediocre stuff. Really that’s all the LoG albums.

I can agree there for sure, always amazes me because they are kinda writing the same song for decades but some are horrid and some are bangers idk
Wait why the fuck is 'Descending' sounding so much like Be'Lakor lmfao

Especially in recent albums, it’s just groovey “Redneck”-esque riffs over and over. The more interesting stuff from the first two records are almost nonexistence. Still, I’ll give them some credit for being masters of that type of riff.

"Really that’s all the LoG albums."
Except Palaces, that one is straight up perfect, all killer no filler

Forgotten and Requiem are easy cuts from this album. The rest of it is pretty stellar, but was also the beginnings of their stagnation. I think Wrath has a lot of really good stuff and at times harkens back to early-era LoG but then Desolation released and I realized how bored I had become with their sound. Haven't given any of their newer stuff more than a second glance.

How fucking funny is the fact that Randy is imitating an Indian instrument when saying "She's all yours now..." in Beating on Death's Door, that's honestly such a creative thing lol

Machine making Randy, who was a chronic chainsmoker, run laps around the recording studio so he can sound out of breath on Blacken the Cursed Sun was something else. I don't even think they used those takes on the final master either lol.

This is one of those bands I skipped over when I was in high school. I'll finally give this album a real listen I suppose.

I like it, there were some really killer tracks. NWOAHM bands are always kind of like Jack in the Box cheeseburgers for me though. Like they're good, but I wouldn't eat them unless I was really hungry.
