Fair enough I just hate that melody, those robot vocals, everything... ugh
Let's talk about Question! what a tune that is.

Question! is one of those song styles I really wish SOAD would have done more with.

Among the best choruses I've ever heard, probably
Man Mezmerise/Hypnotize could've easily lived up to the previous three albums if they'd just made it one album with a tracklist like this:
Soldier Side (Intro)
BYOB
Hypnotize
Revenga
Cigaro
Holy Mountains
Vicinity of Obscenity
Radio/Video
Cocaine
She's Like Heroin
Violent Pornography
Question!
Lonely Day
Soldier Side
Lost in Hollywood
Not necessarily in that order but you know

If these guys could commit to a tour, maybe then we could start thinking about a new album. Those
festivals they did back in 2012 don't really hint at any staying power to me. Supposedly they are
back from the hiatus, but they only played one show in the states for 2013, so what the fuck? It's
all up to Serj. He has the final say on the band's future.

I've heard Serj's solo albums and Scars on Broadway were pretty meh (haven't checked for myself though) so who knows what a new album would be like anyway?

Fuck Scars on Broadway. That band is shit. Serj's solo stuff is hit or miss.

they were cool when I saw them live because I knew the songs and whatever but honestly I would be ok if they never released any new material

Aw look at Lloyd all grown up
Agreed that I would be ok with them not releasing anything new because honestly I would expect it to be bad
But I dunno if I can ever get sick of WE WILL FIGHT THE HEATHENS WE WILL FIGHT THE HEATHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENS

you have to admit they're a pretty juvenile band

Yeah I'm not denying that but that's why I love them
Songs like BYOB and Chop Suey! will always make me feel 12 and I love that
Also they have a great ability to go from juvenile songs to serious, emotional songs within the space of one album (Vicinity of Obscenity/She's Like Heroin compared to Lonely Day/Soldier Side is a good example) and I love that too
|
| |
ah yea for sure
idk maybe I'm just in a mood atm I'm sure if I chucked on one of their albums I'd be shakin my white ass lol

They normally have something to say, but the way in which they say it is always ridiculously over the top. I can see how some would consider it juvenile, but I see it more as absurd in style. And I'm pretty sure these guys are a bit more self aware than people give them credit for. Their culture (from what I can tell) is pretty removed from most American culture and the ridiculousness that they put out is a mirror of what they see.
And you know it's possible that's all bullshit, but that's the way I perceive it and that's the great thing about art. It's all about how you perceive it.

I agree with you most of the time bro they usually have a genuine message and you can tell that they're very emotionally motivated by it (except maybe on Hypnotize)
but then you have songs like Bounce which are just purely for fun
