really love the way inamorata feels like the "heavy metal" successor of outlaw torn and fixxxer. i'd even say the main riff has a resemblance to outlaw torn's riff, and the verse riff has a resemblance to fixxxer's verse riff. james and kirk seem to be playing two different guitar parts throughout most of the song just like on load/reload. my favorite song here without question, never thought they'd write anything like that again tbh

made a gym playlist of only dm/hardwired/72 seasons songs and listening to songs from here against the other two i think the production here def has a bit more low end, with rob being a whole lot more audible than in the past
rob is barely more audible on death magnetic than jason is on justice... hardwired is hardly better... but here i think you can quite clearly hear what he's playing at all times

I'll be honest, it's slowly growing, might give a +.5.

I think the album appears to be more of the same modern Tallica bullshit at first, but actual relistens reveal alot of cool stuff that elevates it more than the other new albums. I'm still pretty surprised that this has a lower rating than DM or HW...

The vocal mix is the best I have ever heard from Metallica. It sounded muffled in st anger and death magnetic, ok in hardwired but perfect here.

it's a grower that suffers because Hardwired overloaded everyone with too much 'modern 'tallica'

Hardwired did kind of make me lose hope a bit. Im sure there are people who liked that style but it wasnt for me.
This is no Ride the Lighting but it's somewhat more organic sounding than the previous two studio albums.

if the songs were streamlined down to a 50 minute album this would have easily been a 3.5 for me I think, it's still just too much - but I'd rather the songs were shorter than that many were cut as the consistency is there

Im on my second listen. Either some of these songs were pulled from long abandoned b-sides or Metallica went full goblin mode with the writing of this album. This may just be their best "chill" album since Black album.
My rule is album length or filler will only keep me from rating 5, but 3.5 is fair game as long as there's at least an EPs worth of great songs. Def a 3.5 or 4 on this one. Good writing permeates the entire thing, its not like three good singles and then filler like with death magnetic. I actually WANT to listen to the entire album.
The average filler song on most of Metallica's classics arent much better. Songs like Chasing Light have the subtlety and dynamics we all loved from those classic albums - and heavy that actually FEELS heavy. Its crazy this album is what it is.

It took me about 8 listens to start appreciating this Tranta. That’s when a lot of the subtleties started presenting themselves and it started to sink. Bumping this up to a 4 boys.

I’m half tempted to 3.5 this but that would mean it ranking higher than Death Magnetic and Load that I also have on a 3…not sure
