behemoth are another band that i was kind of expecting would wear off me considering how a lot of kvlt shit did, but surprisingly i find them mostly pretty solid too

my hot take there is that grom, pandemonic, satanica and thelema are pretty fucking underrated compared to demigod and the apostasy [:

theyve had a pretty interesting career trajectory if you look at the whole thing. its mostly the "mid career" thats kinda samey, which makes it all the weirder how demigod is worshipped above all the previous ones

if i had to pick favs there it would prob be satanist, forests dream eternally and evangelion

I'm probably guilty of fueling the fire park, on the topic of metal bands that aren't creative. I know the osdm revival scene isn't necessarily the most creative hub of musical minds but i guess ill be goddamned if I dont love some good generic chunky death doom etc

idk its good to enjoy what you can tho

i dont think everything i love is always the most creative ever either, like radiohead and bowie prob get too much credit for the "experimental" things they tried but i still love that shit lol

Park - I think Demigod is over-hyped because Slaves Shall Serve fucking rips and they got a bit of air play from the video in the UK and it was the first time a lot of people my age heard them.

I think it’s definitely one of their best songs but as albums go, their blacker early stuff made for a better overall play.

i just dont understand how anyone can think satanica or thelema.6 are noticeably worse than demigod

if anything the clearer production (it helps not having 69 layers of vocals burying the guitars) prob pushes them above it lol

as cliche elitist as this will sound, those early behemoth demos are solid bathory-style rockers. grom and the first record are alright. i thought satanist was boring as fuck

cannibal corpse are a band i was pretty dismissive of cause id heard shit on like MTV2 and music choice channels growing up, my first metal bands were maiden, metallica, etc and i would hear 2000s cannibal corpse somewhere and be like wow death metal must suck, they sound like cookie monster! blah blah. plus being exposed to deathcore/metalcore i was like wow i dont want shit to do with this music and i just kept listening to dio and pantera

anyway so i eventually got into death metal a couple years later and still kinda assumed cannibal corpse were boring or pleb or something, doesnt help that they always tour with queef bands. finally i was around 16 when i checked out eaten back to life, realized it was awesome, and have dug their records ever since. theyre not the most experimental band but its solid reliable shit and they change styles slightly enough to stay interesting (eaten is more thrashy, then they have spastic borderline brutal dm stuff, they got the mid paced grooves, etc). websters an incredible bassist and can play fusion and shit when he wants to, i like the dumb lyrics, dumb covers, etc. none of their records would even make my top 100 dm but they just hit the spot sometimes

they tech pretty well on occasion, and some songs like from skin to liquid you'd never expect from a band like this
