Fiction is fun as fuck. I know it's not as good as Damage or Character, but shit, it's good times

Void is weakest DT but not nearly as offensive as it is portrayed at times. Some good songs on there.
Fiction is actually one of my favorites lol, I think it's the perfect encapsulation of their mainstream vision while maintaining their songwriting integrity. Probably my favorite closing track of theirs too with "Mundane and the Magic."

Anyway, just gave this a spin again after some time
There are definitely some fucking awesome tracks here
Favorites rn are Remain in the Unknown, A Drawn Out Exit, Ego Deception, The Dark Unbroken and Standstill, which are, I just realised, all next to each other on the tracklist

A Dark Tranquillity 3.5 is still probably better than most 3.5s tbh, has its hits but also has a few that just feel very by-the-numbers.

Moment has their best album artwork though.

I have it as my DT shirt too. Very solid album and I love Phantom Days, The Dark Unbroken and Ego Deception. Just wished it was a little less safe.

Yeah, agreed. They translate very well to a live setting, but as they are, they just feel too standard for me. I guess they've found their niche at this point, but I was hoping for some surprises on here, which Atoma managed to have.

I do need to see them live at some point. They seem great. Honestly prefer Moment to Atoma. It is a bit more guitar melody driven which is more of my cup of tea than the more keyboard driven Atoma. Not saying it is bad at all, it has many great moments but Moment did improve upon that formula for me at least.

Well I adore Haven, so that probably tells you enough about my feelings regarding excessive keyboard usage.
Although even then, I wouldn't say it's excessive. He just has a bit more of a prominent role in the mix at times, which I prefer to other instances where he fades away in the background. Gotta have that extra d e p t h.

I do quite like the keyboard sometimes and it does add a lot to their music. I cannot imagine Shadow In Our Blood or Hours Passed In Exile being as good as they are without the keyboards being more prominent but my personal favourite DT albums are their first 4 as I like the more guitar driven sound.

haven is incredible

Keyboards give some more intrigue and atmosphere to their sound, and it's a big part of what elevates their big 3 run. Even in a supporting role (ex. "Forward Momentum"), it creates a haunting ambiance that elicits a stronger emotional reaction that ordinarily wouldn't be there.
Haven is incredible [2] people want DT to step outside of their box but get mad at them when they do, 3.6 avg is silly.

Stepping outside the box doesn't necessary produce good music

Still curious as to why Jivarp was kicked out.

Yeah, it was only up for a day or so, but he posted a message on his Instagram shortly after the news broke saying he was fired, and that DT apparently "didn't need" him anymore. Which in turn prompted Iwers to come out and clarify reasons for his own departure. It was just odd to see a sudden flash of drama when DT has been such an even-keel ship for so long.

Not that I have a sense of the internal dynamics of the band, but I find it very hard to believe that a founding member would be fired 30+ years into a band's existence. Who can even fire him at that point?
I did think that his performance on Moment was uninspired though, given that he's had so many amazing and memorable moments throughout their career. But DT (or anyone for that matter) saying they don't need Jivarp is an unfathomable turn of events, so the whole thing sound super weird to me, would be intrigued to learn more from a reliable source.

He wrote 3 songs completely by himself as a drummer? That's pretty crazy
And yeah I don't believe for a second that he was fired. Must have been something else.

I was under the impression that Jivarp also had a big part in the song arrangements on most of the records. This is the first I am hearing of him being fired, also. I recall a DT post that said something along the lines of "Well, it looks like after all this time, Anders Jivarp and Iwers don't want to be in the band anymore."
I just figured those guys sort of reached the point Martin Henriksen cited, where the passion just wasn't there anymore, so they bailed. That was just an assumption, though.
One thing I noticed while watching some of The Moment making of youtube shit, was a comment here and there about Brandstrom maybe having too much creative control at this point. I think it was Chris Amott that inferred that.
