I get liking this, over The Mountain tbh. That one is a little too boring

Yea, it peaks after Cockroach King, falls flat and never gets up again

I probably liked The Mountain for a few listens, but it really grew off me. Seriously, after Cockroach Kink there isn't much that interests me anymore. Because it's There is nice though.

I thought about this a while. This album grew on me a fair bit and I consider it in the better half of their discography now.

Visions < The Mountain < Aquarious < Virus < Affinity < Vector

Crazy how much my opinion on this band changed over the years.

8888th comment by the way. Good number to come to terms with this album. I really is excellent.

Visions is their worst one. I don't care to return to anything from it besides the title track.

I used to like Visions best and it has cool tracks with the opener, the title track and Deathless (one of their best ballads imo), but apart from that it's just too samey imo.

A shame, really. I warmed up towards The Mountain though, even though I would say it loses steam towards the end

"even though I would say it loses steam towards the end"

The last four tracks are "Falling Back to Earth", "As Death Embraces" (their best ballad), "Pareidolia" (their best track period), and "Somebody"...

... bro what do you mean it loses steam?!!??!

visions may not be their best but it's still better than the stinking poo poo that is affinity

As Death Embraces is probably the least memorable track on that album imo. I can't remember anything about it, even though I listened to it a couple of times. Pareidolia is cool for a while, but way too long imo. Falling Back To Earth is cool, not my favorite, but it grew on me. Somebody is a great closer.

Yea, the weaker half of the album. It definitely loses steam imo. I used to be harsher in TM, so I am being generous here

How can The Mountain fall flat after Cockroach King when it has Falling Back to Earth?? That's such a weird take to me haha.

I would love to love Falling Back To Earth as well, but I just don't, I guess

"As Death Embraces" gets me every time. Thematically its the perfect segue into the final songs talking about death, destiny, and the afterlife. Definitely one of their more haunting songs.

As Death Embraces has nice atmosphere, but I prefer melodies instead, I guess. To me it's just very unmemorable and I would just cut it out tbh.

And how is Pareidolia their best track? I just listened to it again and after some minutes my mind just starts wandering, it doesn't keep my attention at all.

I'd agree that Pareidolia is overrated. But I will never tolerate any sort of Falling Back to Earth slander haha.

Also, hot take-ish, Affinity is their best album. It's an outlier in their discography, but come on, 1985, The Architect, Endless Knot, Lapse.. I never got the "hate" it receives.

Your words hurt my heart. For some reason that song just hits me in the feels every time, but each to their own.

I think whatever was released after The Mountain was going to not live up to the hype. It's not even that I dislike Affinity but in comparison to its predecessor it just feels... less than. The concept isn't as strong, the music not as seemingly epic. It's by no means a bad album though.
