@Itwasthatwas True. Yet, one might assert that if the musical domain becomes further commercialized or homogenized this might worsen. And if, for example, art subsides are cut or music education becomes significantly more expensive (which is what has increasingly occured in my country) this might become even worse.

Memento, kind of a random example I know but I remember around 05 I read an interview with Scar Symmetry that all the guys had day jobs and that was standard in the scene since metal didn’t pay. Probably gotten worse since then since I know the bigger metal labels at the time have mostly been struggling. The biggest downside is you won’t get those occasional high budget albums that can only be done with high end production. On the flip side, recording tools have never been cheaper or more accessible so the floor quality on releases has come way up

1/5 isn’t even that bad... well okay it IS bad but awarding something 24% wouldn’t signal ‘this has no redeeming qualities’ yet that’s how Sput’s rating system works, as we’re not allowed to rate anything 1/10 (i.e. 0.5/5).

@in7hox Nah man, stop it with that far left, far right, both sides are bad nonsense, you sound like a bloody centrist. If you think one side is garbage, you'll probably be inclined to (largely) agree with the other one, unless you actually reduce politics to a horseshoe. It's not simply a binary conflict with two diametrically opposed monolithic movements on either side and the only reasonable one drifting around the middle. Unless you want to espouse some type of political nihilism, then be my guest.
Also, 5's and 1's are fine ratings, especially if you have your own concrete criteria whereby they can be accorded. For me, 5's are just my top 30-ish favourite records and the 1's are reserved for those records that I don't just find musically, but also aesthetically and philosophically reprehensible.

(political) extremes are shitshows, so no it has nuthin to do with thinkin one sides garbage and the others cool. its about balance in life.
5 and 1 would maybe (big maybe) be fine, if sputniks would use them correctly. but most of the time they just troll in both directions "LuL I TrOlL U" its fukin annoying and takes away any chance to take the ratings on this site srs.

@in7hox Oh yeah sometimes politics is a shit show, but that doesn't imply you can reject an entire political movement or stance in the name of 'balance', whatever that means. What if the status quo is also a shitshow hmm? What if you think balance can only be achieved through radical action? Just a thought.
@Relinquished I was being partially facetious. I took the bait, I will admit as much, but to suggest I can't 'handle something' implies I'm having some sort of manic breakdown.
