Have to disagree with you both
Varg’s a huge cunt and aside from his music, has produced almost nothing worthwhile and plenty of it outright damaging, even if I do find him kinda fascinating
His early albums are essential bm classics and some of my favourites, particularly Filosofem, but I’ve enjoyed pretty much everything he’s put out excepting Thule. Say what you want about his stuff after he got locked up, but his first four are undeniable.

Varg could be falsely incarcerated and the very zenith of empathy and that wouldn't improve his prison shit. His early stuff is defo decent, but overrated af if you ask me.

thats the split then homie as far as im concerned the first 4 LPs + aske is some of the best shit in the metal kingdom

Yeah I can't deny the innovation and influence he had so I'm not mad he's got the #1 rated black metal album but I feel like there's way better dungeon synth and similar/better black metal (early blut aus nord for instance)

agreed. his takes are so absurd at times, they become hilariously entertaining.

Yeah, if he didn’t actually have an audience that ate that stuff up I’d feel better about enjoying my morbid engagement with his shenanigans, it’s just a shame he has legitimate influence over some number of WNat incels.

I thought he was gonna have an "evolutionary" arc since his release from jail but it's actually been the opposite, he is becoming dumber than he was in the early 90s. A shame cause when it comes to civilization and eco stuff I really like his stance.

He's just not as smart as his own ego tells him he is.
But again, him being a cunt has no bearing on his musical abilities (which are pretty limited imo)

All juvenile accelerationist anarcho-primitivist bs with revisionist faux-nostalgia thrown in if you ask me, but eh
|
| |
Yeah besides the supremacy shit has he actually mounted a compelling and pragmatic case in favor of anarcho-primitivisim or whatever? otherwise its jut pie in the sky stuff anyone can romanticize when you don't dig too deep into it
|
| |
i dont think you need a compelling argument to justify anarcho primitavism, all the principal global issues come from the opposite of anarcho primitavism, so wanting to have a minimal lifestyle chillin in the woods raising chickens is virtuous on its own basis

Derrick Jensen and John Zerzan have both great books on green minded anarchism. I try to live as close to sustainable minimalism as I can. I could still do a lot more but I'm content with the progress I've made so far. I got interested in this stuff pretty early through Tolstoy and I'm sure more and more people will end up realizing those apparently crazy people were right about capitalism and the industrial way of life.

It might work for a few fringe types who wanna cosplay early stone age humans but how would it work if hypothetically human nature changed such that the philosophy was adopted en masse?
Returning to pre agricultural revolution lifestyle and primitive tech would surely see the vast majority of the population wiped out pretty quickly either from famine and or once treatable diseases or injuries, especially the sick and disabled who depend on modern tech and services.
Plus, we've been spoiled by tech and entertainment options, fuck returning to mind numbing hunter gatherer lifestyle. Perhaps for future generations if that's all they ever knew but the transition period would be insufferably uncomfortable for most
Then you're also left entirely at the mercy of mother nature and the goodwill of others not to fuck with you and your family even more so than in a capitalist society
And logistically I can't really understand how it's possible unless the population shrinks by like 90%
I agree with reforming society so it's not a capitalist hellhole and minimizing environmental damage but anarcho primitivism seems like an extreme and fantastical overreaction like burning down the house to kill the termites

It wasn't that long ago people died en masse from nowadays preventable diseases like the Spanish flu. Primitivism sounds romantic for about a minute until reason kicks in.

I agree about your points about the transitional aspects Ephemeral. Again, most of us still live in a society and have a limited range of options when it comes to reducing the influence of capitalism/environment destructive practices in our world, yet there are many small things we can do in our lives to add our small part towards a more sustainable future. It's a very complex topic and I don't like to preach too much with the keyboard, since I think it's mostly useless.

If you don't enjoy capitalism I think that socialistic ideas go a lot further than primitivism will ever offer. I'd rather people value activism than isolation in the forest.

I think living according to your values is a way of activism. Most times way better than what people nowadays considere activism. I've been very disillusioned with activist groups and I'm a pessimist honestly but still you can always try in your own path.
