I know a girl who's in an E-40 video

e-40 is relevant because he's super likeable and his base is thick as fuck. he's been popular for nearly 30 years he doesn't need to try. music aside, it doesnt hurt that he's got a very successful alcohol brand

you really know nothing youre talking about if you dont understand his significance in hip hop

idk the fact that he's got Chris Brown AND Rick Ross on the same song bugs me, speaking on his most recent album lmao and clearly he's been eclipsed by the Biggies, Pacs, Nas's, Rakims, NWA's, and the KRS-One's of the world.

yes he made songs with two of the most popular artists of the past decade whats your point

and since you brought it up streams earlier, 40's got more listeners than rakim or krs one. again, you dont know what youre talking about if you think he's "eclipsed" by these other guys

A wife beater and a guy who writes about getting women drunk before having sex with them. Very upstanding people he's working with. /s

how do you get eclipsed by someone who died when you started making music

it seems that chris brown has been forgiven for his past transgressions and Rihanna and Chris Brown are close friends, i believe rihanna supporting him has been the reason he hasn't been cancelled.

also why is it that lyrics in non rap/hiphop can be stories of fiction but rap songs talking about something are expected to be real life? kind of a double standard you're pulling there with rick ross

i mean we're not talking about whether or not they're good people so i still dont see the point

1) well the names I dropped all have people continuing to speak of them on and off the internet, I really don't know where all this E-40 discourse is outside of this thread, so i'd say in terms of cultural relevance they all got more buzz.

2) well that explains a lot. dude's still getting in trouble for shit tho. as for lyrics, i don't particularly enjoy the "fictional" violence in the likes of death metal and prefer it to be more based in reality anyway.

bro he's still beating women, he's being investigated for battery right now. and none of the names I dropped from what I can tell are a different race than E-40 so...no.

ok you’re either trolling at this point or being intentionally dense

nah im serious, this is the first i've heard of e-40, and i'm a part of a lot of music-related groups, many that discuss hip-hop at large, you'd think there'd be a mention somewhere if he's just as influential as Biggie or Pac.

no one said he's as big as them. there's like 5 rappers that big. but that doesnt mean he isnt known outside of the tiny corners of the internet you choose to reside in

if this is the first time you've heard of him then that's kind of all you needed to say. youve got no basis for any claim youre making, especially since it doesnt seem like you listen to hip hop as it is

also would love to know what these groups are if they represent what constitutes as "relevant" to you

A group literally called ">implying we can discuss music", many music servers, here, RYM, and a circle of friends that have helped open me to more hip-hop, somehow even my hip-hop buddies never informed me of E-40 but they've gotten me into GZA/Genius and the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan.

aaaaaaaactually considering where my friends are from that makes sense, they're east-coast for life
