“Post metal as a genre has always felt like one of the most masculine forms of music to me.”

The first post metal album I was obsessed by was Oceanic, which not only has female vocals scattered throughout it, but a very prominent ‘feminine’ feel to it. Very good review, though.

I like post metal, therefore it can't be that masculine.

Although somewhere along the highway is literally about "male loneliness". At least I remember reading that from the band.

woah yeah i do not agree with that sentiment at all about post-metal being super masculine. especially for CoL whose very name itself even contradicts that notion.

if anything i think post-metal has a very apparent duality regarding masculine/feminine

Post metal is masculine in the sense that all metal is masculine, the gender ratio you of the fan base is probably like 100:1. But certainly not more so than other sub genres and less than some

When you talk about masculine/feminine in these contexts you are obviously referring to archetypal characteristics, not actual gender.... that should be obvious enough me thinks

I think the gender distribution of the fan base follows from the archetypal characteristics of the music. If there was really a significant feminine aspect to any of this stuff it wouldn’t be so unappealing to women. Relatively speaking maybe, but not in absolute terms

@itwasthatwas that's silly. Masculine and feminine archetypes in symbology can be identified with regardless of gender, men arent limited to masculine archetypes, however much they might want to be, and metal being unappealing to women is a preposterous generalization. There are many many other more relevant factors in why the male audience may be male-dominant.
