Still think the Lucas fagen review on hyperallergic really gets at why this is good. So does sowing’s but in a different way. Weak songs for sure but I think it’s sufficiently Different and Interesting

Da first like thirty seconds of “bad guy” are so enveloping/intriguing to me, it really doesn’t resemble much else that I’ve heard on pop radio. Definitely she’s not phoning it in and her producer-brother is a wizard. The medley outright to the album is fantastic too

Sort of seems like it but I’m trying to listen closely to the music and get what I get from that. Obviously you have and don’t think it’s good but I really like it and def think she’s forging her own path with the sort of “comic horror” (fagen) vibe

"I stand by my original summary for this. It's a good launching pad. She showcases some truly great ideas, and others that are really juvenile and bad. I think her next album will be worth keeping an eye on, it will be really telling as to whether or not she chooses the right path or chases watered down radio pop."

hard agree

We'll see. She probably drop a single near the end of the year.

Yeah she and her brother probably already have a skeleton followup album good to go, this is easily their most successful year, even fucking Adobe is queueing up to feature her in adverts...

Prolificness is trending in the music industry right now, for better or for worse, so I bet we’ll see more music sooner than later

“Bad guy” just dethroned “old town road” as the #1 song on the billboard hot 100

I feel the same way. Only a bit less. Both of them are great.

“Bad guy” offends my sensibilities but it’s great. “Xanny” too. And “wish you were gay”

Amazing outro track as well. And “when the party’s over” and “ilomilo” and “bury a friend”. Strong points everywhere

This is really far more solid than what I gave it credit for, full album runs aren't a problem at all and even "just happen". Favorites are probably xanny (love the dinner jazz ambience), when the party's over, my strange addiction and ilomilo.

Can't everybody just give her brother some props and leave it be?
