saw them last night. new songs were good live. even hold up a light wasn't bad. i feel like that song would be ten times better if the lyrics weren't so repetitive. they also played paper tigers which i haven't seen in ten years.

Does Dustin still scream live? Thought it was mostly Teppei now.

Yeah Dustin definitely still screams. And Ed backs him up, I haven't seen Teppei scream in years.

I was at the show last night as well, and I gotta say the band and audience both seemed bored as hell during Branch and Hold Up a Light. Everyone got into the other new songs, but they really should drop those two.
And yeah Paper Tigers was insane

Got this on vinyl. Some good ideas on these songs but they are bogged down by uninspired song structures and generic half time choruses.
Blood on Blood oddly suffers from the opposite problem of being a little too disjointed.
Just Breathe is really good and kind of reminds me of more recent Rx Bandits; surprised how well Dustin’s voice harmonizes with the female vocal. Beyond the Pines is pretty too and may become one of my favorite Thrice closers.
But overall this album really was a missed opportunity.

Damn. I found myself bored listening to this. I've really been trying to go back and find something I really like.
Only Us is my favorite song, and even then the chorus annoys me a bit because it has such cool verses and tempo.
My 2nd favorite song is Branch. It does feel kind of old school for me and the last 30 seconds are killer. Wish there was more of that midway through the song.
Pines is good, it just feels like it's missing something being a Thrice ender.
Hopefully it'll grow on me. Pretty sure this is my least favorite Thrice album :/

so live favorites were easily the grey (no surprise there) and beyond the pines (really great, closer before the encores)
the dark a little underwhelming
what i liked before the show was that a bunch of tbeitn was retained for the setlist (alongside beggars, that one has some of the best live offerings)
they were great as usual

Fuck that song but Hurricane/The Window/Black Honey/Long Defeat are pretty much the only good songs and they seem to be staples in their set now

the new songs sound massive live. I found a new appreciation for Hold A Light. It's so clear that they have a blast playing it. If you look at it as their fun radio-rock song and not take it so seriously its fine.
