Pretty sure Johnny is saying some of her new stuff is overcrowded and that music doesn't need to be deeply complex to be connected with. In Bjork's case, less is often more. Some of this new material sounds like she's so far up her own ass.
"i honestly have never grabbed onto anything as a highlight with vulnicura, it just sounds pallid to me. whereas with Biophilia at least i actually have melody recall for half the album"
Yes, definitely. Bjork is best at creating melody and atmosphere and a lot of this is traded in favour of big grandiose strings and long meandering song structure. It doesn't pay off for me. It's cool others can get so much out of it but to me it feels like all the small little nuances I loved in her past music (like multiple noteworthy idiosyncratic vocal deliveries in songs like moon or undo) are stripped away. I probably connect with history of touches the most, which I'm sure is a hot take to many but for me it evokes that similar icy atmosphere heard in Vespertine. Telling that the song that's most electronically driven is the one that sounds the most human to me

"Track is needlessly elaborate yet centred tired, overly familiar melodies an elongated development severely lacking in focus (a trait so common to contemp Bjork, including a good part of Vulnicura, that by-numbers is I think just about passable as a dunk"
Also 100% this. This sums up how I feel about modern Bjork perfectly

Under developed yet over embellished - it's the classic lack of (natural?) inspiration combo

so lame when people throw accusations toward the artist on a personal level just because they don’t like the music

It's called an observation, not a personal attack

it’s not an observation or a critique of her music though, it’s an unfounded assumption about her motives

couldn't it be that he just likes this stuff tho? that's kind of a cynical take on why people would claim to enjoy music

he's criticised bjork itt too tho, like when he talked about crystalize (?
maybe people ae just defensive about something that they enjoy in a genre that they don't often vibe with, and don't want to consider the possibility of running out of it, idk. like, as somebody who doesn't enjoy metal a lot, thinking that i'm gonna run out of new enjoyable meshuggah songs is kind of a bummer, so i won't want to believe it when it happens
edit: all of that may or may not apply to colton, i don't know him to know actually

are they similar enough to scratch the same itch bjork does? will check em when i get the chance !! :0
edit: lol depends on which bjork typa album tho, i'm guessing a similar vibe to this but more focused? that would be fun :0
