who knew a group so artfully sedate could start an internet argument so marginally less sedate?

Gang o' Youth's have an adorable emo sensibility to their vocals married to a twinkly production sheen that appeals to me greatly

Now please put that gun down I beg you

TWFM is full of energy and tons of great hooks. This is the opposite, aside from a few tracks.

And then stuff like Born to Beg and Empire line are so bland.

Still, there are some bonafide classics like Guilty Party.

You're either deaf or dumb if you think this has more energy than twfm - sea of love alone has more energy than this entire album.

day I die sounds like a kings of leon song, and not even one of the better ones (of the two they have)..

I love this band, and I love the Doof, but that song is a room temperature piece of garbage..

Butch it's my third least favourite on the album but I like it enough, I wouldn't say it's offensively inoffensive.

You are more of a noisenik than I am though.

Gang of Youths do have that same studio polish gloss to Kings of Leon for me.

Bit eager to please the lads.

Day I Die is one of my favorites, I love how much it draws on the Alligator/Boxer era.

Sint - interesting you have 'Born to Beg' down as your favourite, it took me months and months to eventually settle on 'Slipped' being my favourite on TWFM. Could be a similar deal here.

Ryus I think the chorus is simple but effective.

It's hardly inspired but it works, don't have an issue with it.

Matt's vocals in 'Day I Die' are really enjoyable, particularly the verses. It's solid.

it's one of the only instances in which i feel like the national is really just acting like a by-the-numbers indie rock band

Optimistic tone of it is quite refreshing and it fair motors - a by-the-numbers rocker isn't always a bad thing, especially when it's a real rarity in a discog

I don't think it will stay a favorite for me, I expect the slow burners to become more impactful with time. I like that it's an immediately inviting tune placed right in the second spot.
