"daring enough to combine blues and hard rock (dare i say metal, again)

you are right JT, it really isn't open for debate. and it's not even about influence, it's about pioneering."

C'mon Titan, Zep were moving with the scene along with other bands that were combining blues and rock starting from about 1967. And they definitely didn't combine blues with heavy metal as the latter wasn't even a thing and Zep certainly didn't play heavy metal, they were just heavier than most other mainstream bands around at the time and thus played a part in its development.

I'm talking musical creativity, such as moving away from traditional structures and distancing themselves from the blues and folk artists that at times during their early days they ripped off. I mean they've been widely criticised on this site for their lack of creativity during that era, perhaps too heavily, but still the reason they can be considered as pioneers on the back of their first couple of albums was simply because they brought a heavier sound to the mainstream.

Don't get me started on the term progressive.

By the way, as for Physical Graffiti, the reason it's so highly praised is down to the quality and variety of its material. I'm never going to agree with you on that album just like you're never going to agree with me for thinking the same about LZ IV (with regards to filler).
