Yeah I figured. Luckily I managed to get my hands on a secondhand physical copy from some sketchy site. To this day it's my most treasured cd haha

"Andy released a remixed and remastered version of Guardians on Saor's bandcamp page today."
i really don't understand this - it's remixed and remastered by the same guy who mixed and mastered it in the first place
aura was the same - same guy who mastered the original remixed and remastered the new release
he's a great audio engineer (he's doing my new album) but i really don't understand the point

Not unless it sounds better.
It's like some artists never finish painting a picture, you know?

an audio engineer leave as much of an impression artistically as anybody else performing on the record. and much of the time they're artistic choices rather than objective ones. there isn't really a 'better' or a 'worse' and just having the same dude remix/remaster the album 4 years later... idk man, i don't see the point.
fwiw as well i prefer the original aura - i really loved the distant sound that had that everyone else seemed to have an issue with. i felt it was perfectly suitable. if you crank that on a stereo it sounds gorgeous. it's not really a headphone/earphone record. the new one loses the airy feeling and feels too compressed.

yeah guess so.
tbf i released a remaster of my own album (so obviously done by me) but my defense is i had no idea what i was doing when i released it originally lmao

ya that's absolutely fair. I'm doing the same thing with Dzo's second album, which wasn't even really mastered the first time around.

not alone, i saw the announcement on his fb page and i was like "why? guardians already sounded great"

suppose this provides a more immediate guitar-oriented 'metal' sound by making the guitars sound prettier

Falloch are uber trash

fwiw andy was pretty disappointed with how falloch turned out, he said the demos were a lot better than the album turned out to be, it would have been interesting to hear how he wanted it to be

not really sure about the whole thing yet but whatever that honky ass instrument is at the end of the remixed Tears of a Nation it fucking ruins that whole five minute long outro, holy shit. It sounded so good in the original but now it's ultra loud and honky as shit. That's like the best part on the record too.

Did this album really need a remaster???
I've always dug the production and mixing. Clean but not -surgically- clean

I'm pretty sure the remasters are just an excuse for Season of Mist to reprint his back catalogue since he signed to them last year.
