Maybe it was my freakishly low expectations going in, but I really did enjoy this on first listen.

I have mentally checked out on Opeth but I gave this the courtesy of listening to the 1 minute samples and it sounded pretty decent
If I hated the last two records but otherwise really enjoy Opeth (even cleaner works like Damnation) is this worth spending time I don't really have to listen to?

Listening to Ghost of Perdition, Bleak, Night and the Silent Water, Face of Melinda, or pretty much anything of of their old albums, and then listening to anything off this really makes it hard to defend this.
