That's usually how Cave's humour turns out

That 'supermarket queues' section of Magneto was the bit that hit hardest on my first listen, the way the music mixes and it starts with the 'urge to kill somebody was overwhelming' bit - that's the point where I froze.

I dunno, this does Lulu a bit in places ('...forbidden energy flickering innnn theeeee gloooooom') but it doesn't break the spell

there was nothing wrong with the basic concept of Lulu though it's just the execution was fucking awful in every way, unlike this

Well 'Lulu' became unintentionally hilarious, so anyone who skirts close to similar territory (particularly vocal delivery) will cause flashbacks in those who've been exposed to Lulu

Thankfully they didn't choose Hetfield to do backing vox here, imagine him doing the whoooo whoooo backing on 'Rings of Saturn-yaaaaaaaa'

eagle-like? I assume you're referring to the pitch-shifting lead drone?

Yeah man, half of these songs and the manipulated synths on them make me feel like I'm starring in my own haunted film. Definitely window gazing, life contemplating stuff. And then add the fact of what Nick was feeling and grieving over while writing them; bone-chilling

Half of the record is overtly, almost unbearably despairing like an unrestrained wail.

And half of it feels numbly dead, just a blank sort of void.

Despite my relatively lukewarm opinion of this I'm still extremely excited to check his other stuff.

Some of his ballads are incredible Boney, stuff like 'Love Letter' and 'Into My Arms' is essential
