with the incredibly 'you either love them or hate them' vocals that divide the entire planet in half - yeah them
there was a kid at school who would only play The Cranberries or the Levellers non stop for what seemed like three years and that made a lasting impact - I did listen to them again recently looking at the ratings here, but some wounds time never heals

"everything they do sounds really forced and staged to me. It's just a gut thing, I hear a bunch of fakers"
so like everything everything, gotcha.
"Veneer is too samey"
look at all your 5's and 4.5's.
"This is the music I find a bit bland but that's my taste (bad taste no doubt). "
fucking hilarious

"Her voice is questionable"
saying Dolores voice is questionable is questionable
wait scratch that its just stupid.
|

I guess 'Veneer' is my 'Carrie and Lowell'
Everything Everything aren't passing themselves as the epitome of cool like Primal Scream do on every single album they release though

"I guess 'Veneer' is my 'Carrie and Lowell'"
no
"Everything Everything aren't passing themselves as the epitome of cool like Primal Scream do on every single album they release though"
thats completely a matter of perspective and i've noticed that you are exceptionally biased compared to most people on that front. if you perceive something to be pretentious you immediately condemn and resent it, which is hilariously pretentious in its own right. talk about irony.

| |
like your Apocalypse Girl soundoff is easily the stupidest and least self aware thing i've ever read on the entire site
|
| |
you're like an anti-hipster doofus
and being an anti-hipster is like the most hipster thing you can be
thats the funny part

Lol Dolores' voice is not questionable.
|

my ratings are entirely subjective, I've never said anything less
if I feel something is fake or pretentious (in a bad way), that's my instinct, to hide behind the 'competent music gets a 2.5' thing a lot of users have here is pointless imo
competent gets a 1, it reached my headphones in the first place, enjoyment builds on that
|

wonder if she'd be as hot without the bangz
|
| |
"my ratings are entirely subjective, I've never said anything less"
ratings have nothing to do with what we are talking about now. we are talking about you disliking something because you 'decide' they are pretentious. deciding an artist is pretentious just by listening to an album is definitively stupid. you are just assuming things about their person based off of sounds. utterly stupid.

Yeah the Screamadelica rating is a bit crass but we all have our out there ratings.

"if I feel something is fake or pretentious (in a bad way), that's my instinct, to hide behind the 'competent music gets a 2.5' thing a lot of users have here is pointless imo"
fake and pretentious are not synonymous and are not used interchangeably, don't alter the debate to better suit your hole ridden stance. and the 2.5 thing is irrelevant, you are deflecting.

The Jenny Hval I get what she's aiming at and there are a few interesting songs but taken as a whole I find the approach tiring
I doubt I'm really an anti-Hipster because I like a lot of hipster approved stuff and share a lot of hipster approved opinions.
I've been accused of being a 'random rater' and that might be closer to the truth - music isn't logical for me, two albums could be musically very similar but if I hate the vocals, or the backing vocals, or the inclusion of a certain instrument, that alone could reduce it to worthless. I don't pick apart music like that - either the whole package is appealing or it isn't. That's why two albums by the same artist I could have at the opposite end of the scale.
I've found that the thing that winds up other users the most here is that there should be either an 'objective logic' you should apply or if not a code of loyalty to artists or genres.
