A lot of it's good but only sectionally. I don't see how people can't hear all the awkwardness on this record.
Brought to Water goes nicely until 3:20 when that solo cuts in awkwardly and feels emotionally out-of-touch with the music (and too loud?). And after the vocals come in the lead-esque solo comes back and keeps going. The piano outro is dumb.
Luna - 47 seconds in another stupid lead comes in and ruins all the evil momentum. It recovers, but still. At 3:00 there's that weird guitar riff between the tremolo riffs that acts as a transition and sounds like some awkward banjo riff that's out of tune.
Baby Blue - was actually structurally interesting (albeit total Alcest worship) until the momentum's ruined by that awful solo that's way too long and not fitting their style at all. And then you have those boring chugs in the latter half that do nothing.
Come Back - the palm-muting sounds out of tune or something? They don't sound right. And then there's that post-rock outro that doesn't go anywhere and comes out of nowhere. Bad transition.
Gifts - the heavy post-metal riff feels rather jarring in it's transition from ultra light-to slammin metal riff. And then they use the SAME idea for a metal-to-post-rock transition by having whatshisname's scream trail out while the intruments fade and post-rock comes gliding it. It's a tired idea and basically a cliche in metal by now. Their transitions are overall just crappy and they repeat ideas a guhjillion times.
This should never have left the demo stage in this form.
