At the Drive-In are one of my favorite bands, but going into this and expecting ATD-I would probably make you feel underwhelmed. I'd kill to see ATD-I play live.

This isn't a particular good concept album. It's a very good album though.

Frances is their best though. Like, miles ahead. Day of the Baphomets is the only thing they've done
since which is on the same level.

A good start for The Mars Volta, but this is only the beginning. I prefer albums like Frances, Octahedron, and even Bedlam. My understanding is that those albums get a lot of flack (Octa and Bedlam) they're probably my favorites though.



Enjoyable band, though I find At the Drive In just as special.

To me Frances was a bit bloated but overall it's better than this because it pushed the band forward a little more. After Frances they found a nice spot, but with their newest one I feel like they went backwards or to the left or somewhere because that album is lacking something.
