as a true music fan (unlike most staffers here) i try to cover lots of ground, i strive to have no biases. some shit just sounds queef to my ears, cant really help that. my idea of sensitivity without being contrived and whiny would be steely dan's dr wu, not so much morrissey cryin about how someone ate a burger

"ive heard more than you bitch"

k cool.

"i do dig pavements songwriting a fair bit, dont tell the zoomers but i think malkmus digs the beatles"

Malkmus probably did. Beatles did influence a lot of the 70s Punk bands that were helpful in influencing the early 80s Alt

Morrisey's solo stuff is boring but The Smiths S/T and The Queen Is Dead are both still GOATed, Marr had a pretty cool unique guitar sound and playing. I have never listened to Steely Dan and I don't know if I want to since even Jaco-era Weather Report is the kind of Jazz that makes me feel like vomiting rainbows.

"and the only thing left to do is back-and-forth about how many classics the '00s had and whether it's worth apologising for the '10s."

I give a firm not worth apologizing, even if the 2000s gave us Screaming Females and a few other good ones.

@virathius you would hate steely dan tbh, its impeccable production, great lyrics (not very saccharine stuff or breakup lyrics like indie), great musicianship, emphasis on clean pop melodies and zero distorted guitars
