Most people seem to not to like the new one much but I'm still super excited to hear it. Probably gonna 4 it at least.

There's gotta be at least one good one out of his 10 or whatever.

A lot of the people complaining about the new album are the same people who don't like this

Klap 2d it and the averages both here and at RYM are significantly lower.

I haven't been blown away by anything from it yet, but I'm still reserving judgement

Hands down my favorite release from 2015, with Carrie & Lowell and Peripheral Visions on it's heels.

Same for me, except Divers in place of Peripheral Vision.

"People can't even wait for the album to be released to hate on it."
It leaked 2 months early... what magically changes on release day? If anything we've had time to shift our opinions (I raised the new one from a 1.5 to a 3).

I heard one song and it sounds the same as this, which did nothing for me. A 3 was a generous rating from me, but people around here seem to really love this guy.

@Lucid A lot can change between a two month old leak and release

(But probably not)

But I still think it's funny that people who keep hating on FJM listened to the leak

Haven't checked the leak, but won't be surprised if it's not great. You can tell on this album that he's real full of himself and it works here, but you really gotta strike a balance

I genuinely think that his coming across as full of himself is all part of the act. Maybe that makes me naive, but I don't think so. It's all intentionally provocative and I think he revels in his ability to frustrate people - if anything that's the part of him that's pretentious or full of himself, but even if so I love him nonetheless. And apart from his whole persona, I think the music is enjoyable enough on its own - it's certainly possible the new one is weaker from that standpoint, but none of the criticisms I've seen so far seem to fixate on that as the weakness, at least no more so than some people thought this was bland instrumentally.
