lol I only dropped it by 0.5, calm down. Thought it would grow on me now that it's got all wintry outside but sadly it hasn't at all.

Oh I thought you had it at a 4 haha. Sorry this still hasn't grown on you, it definitely still has the same impact on me as it did back when I first jammed it.

This reminds me of the two solo albums by Jim Matheos. Great stuff.

How can you 2.5 this but 5 a Vali album? o.O

You mean that Vali album I used to have 5'd? ;)

Quite easily when there's such a big gulf in quality to my ears and when the Vali album in question is one of the only albums of this style I've ever really loved. Having said that, as far as instrumental dark/neo-folk goes, this and Vali are quite different stylistically, so yeah there are many reasons.

The only difference I noticed was that Vali was immediately gratifying, unlike this which took months to get into.

There's a lot of difference in sound and approach. They're pretty much as different as possible within the very specific style they play.

Still surprised you have this at a 2.5. i mean, was there nothing in this that appealed to you?

I can appreciate the musicianship but ultimately it just bores me.

Have you listened to Oado yet, JT? Since you like Vali and not Musk Ox, I'm really curious to hear your opinion on it. It's more atmospheric and straightforward than Woodfall so I think you'd dig.

@talons, why is that? I love folk

This is just very modern and takes inspiration from a lot of genres, even metal, so folk purists would probably just see it as a meandering pointless offshoot of neofolk. This almost fits in better with Agalloch or Ulver than any real folk music, they've even said they're inspired by those bands and have written music for Agalloch.

That's true, it's definitely not traditional, but honestly it's hard for me to see folk purists trying to make a legitimate argument out of that.

I'd say this is more classical than folk
