Omaha I think you missed the point.
All I'm saying is, just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's the band's fault. I'm not
the biggest Opeth Fan. Are they a shit band? No, Opeth just are not my preference.
The way Jacquibim handled himself in this thread was respectable because he communicated his opinion
fairly. Captain North(sorry man) on the other hand, was aggressively trying to force his opinion on
others. That's the difference.
I never spoke about albums being "objectively superior than others". The general consensus is
actually that Justin Beiber is pretty shitty. But again, I didn't mention any of that. Not sure
where you got any of that.

But then the people who like it tend to express it definitively. It cuts both ways man.
I agree, but unfortunately your on the side with the least amount of players. The fact that most
people disagree with you, means your statements will be under a greater deal of scrutiny.
If the overwhelming majority of knowledgeable and unbiased people think this is a good record, It most
likely is. If you don't like it, it isn't a reflection of the album quality. It's a reflection of your
personal taste. It's not a bad thing, it's just not for you.

I was a tad aggressive and that was wrong. But I'd you played this music to the genuine majority of people who are 'knowledgeable' on music, they won't like it. The rankings here reflect it in the same way it seems bands such as, say, Parkway, still get a lot of good rankings and a LOT of good reviews (they've even won awards) - that doesn't mean it's objectively good.
And the comment about it not being the bands fault...well, shit, every band has plenty of people who love them. Nickelback and Beiber included. We don't like it, so is that a reflection on its quality? Yes, because it's always subjective. I like quite a lot of metalcore, it's one of my favourite genres.

It's not fair to say its a person's fault they fail to see why others like something. They just don't like it. It isn't the band's fault either. That said, I think this album is very good and deserves the praise its been getting. I wouldn't say its being over-hyped, eventually I'm sure the average rating will balance out to a 3.9 or 3.8 like their other albums which are comparatively well-liked around here for recent metalcore.

"Just because you don't like something doesn't mean the it's inherently bad."
Listen to Lou Reed and Metallica's 'Lulu', then see if that statement holds up.
