"It’s definitely not their most consistent album, but the nocturnal, sort of lounge vibe that most of this gives off is really hard to beat. It has a certain warmth that they never quite achieved again."

what would you say that is then, Rush of Blood? i don't know if there's a track here (or on that one either, really) that I particularly dislike

I agree with the "certain warmth" thing, I feel like they could have theoretically returned to that on Viva La Vida, and maybe even sorta wanted to, but were still just a little to tempted into going more "grandiose" and obviously that only led to further pop-ifying of their sound or whatever, to the point of Mylo Xyloto type stuff. Haven't exactly kept up with them religiously since around that time

This and Rush of Blood are both wonderful, but nothing else they have done has even come close to them besides maybe Viva

I still am gonna give Everyday Life a go one of these days, but I kinda gave up on them after Head Full of Dreams, so I'm not in much of a hurry

“Spies” still rips all of these years later

I partially agree with Ecnalzen. But I would exclude Viva. I'm not a great fan of that album.

The interplay between the bass and guitar on Spies is so nice.

Yellow is the only good one they wrote. I know this album was apparently just a big Radiohead rip off, but all the other singles I heard were just mostly generic pop rock. Should have just kept trying to rip off Radiohead.

My comment sounds mean spirited, but I just never got into these guys. I meant to smile up my first post more.

This is a cosy album. Definitely gives late Autumn afternoon kinda vibes. I've always thought Viva La Vida was the best Coldplay album, but I low key think Parachutes takes the crown these days. Dunno if it's because I'm getting older and have a bigger appreciation for more easy going music.

For me, "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" is their best work followed closely by "Parachutes".

Parachutes is warm and cosy, Rush of Blood is cold and a little chilling.

Basically agreed. I do think Rush of Blood and Viva have a bit more oomph and substance, but this one has lovely atmosphere and is basically just as good. Yellow is actually my least favorite song on the album haha

Lap this tasty little morsel up like it’s a Parmesan flake atop a delicious Italian lakeside bolognese. Magnifico
