Nah, the beginning is unnecessary and makes "Stairway" one of Zeppelin's worst. I just checked and the song is draggy and

bland until 4:17 and then it gets really good.

and "Misty Mountain Hop" is really fun. What is it with you guys disliking the fun, less serious, Zeppelin tracks?

I guess the crowd who boo'd it off stage when it first premiered in concert are the worst too haha.

Yep, they probably just wanted riffs and solos or something they knew that they could sing along with and go crazy to.

Yeah, but I actually like a lot of non-riff based Zeppelin songs, probably even most of them. Especially "The Rain Song,"

"Ten Years Gone" and "No Quarter." Or even "Going to California" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine"

All of which I easily like more than "Stairway"

Who knows with Ars.

The majority of Stairway to Heaven follows a traditional folk song structure which seems to be alien to him. The whole idea is that the music simply carries the lyrics as the song builds, so calling the first 4 minutes unnecessary is ridiculous regardless of whether or not you like the song.

"follows a traditional folk song structure"

Even when you describe it, it sounds boring. You use words like "traditional." So it's the opposite of innovative?

You have a point. I love an artist who has more than a few tricks up their sleeve and Led Zeppelin does, but "Stairway" is a

bummer. Listening to "The Rain Song" instead because I love it. : )

I never thought so. You guys would probably hate me if I said it was in my bottom 3 non-Coda Zeppelin next to "Boogie with

Stu" (a shameless Richie Valens ripoff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaXA_Hr0CE8 ) and "Hats Off to (Roy)

Harper," (because it's just kind of hard to enjoy.)
