"Listened to this back to back with ashes, and this really does pale in comparison for me. Outside of the “hits” the rest of it does nothing for me. And then the perfect sounding kicks start off ashes and it’s just banger after banger."
If Palaces had the same production quality as Ashes, it might have changed your mind. Ashes is not only a 10/10 just in terms of songwriting, but Machine does a killer job producing. Didn't know it until now but Devin Townsend produced this one. What the fuck happened?!

No, I didn't take production into consideration when I back-to-backed them this go'round. Like I said, outside the "hits" (t/t, 11th, Vigil, Ruin) I just don't enjoy the rest much. Whereas Ashes is no skips for me.

I'm really surprised that you feel there is such a difference in quality between Palaces and Ashes. I feel like both albums are generally flawless.

You want me to really blow your mind? When the market deems a bond too risky to buy, what do you think we do with it? You think we just warehouse it on the books? No. We just repackage it with a bunch of other shit that didn't sell and put it into a CDO.

I don't know jack shit about debts other than big financial companies buy, trade, and sell bundles of other peoples' debt for profit. I'm sure Randy'll write a song about that someday.

It's from The Big Short.
Yeah, just can't get into the rest of the album.

OG or remaster?
|
| |
Either, the remaster is barely distingushable.

Disagreed. I think the remaster (remix) is a massive improvement but hey I may be going deaf
|
| |
I'll be more precise: they both sound bad, but again, when I back-to-backed the two, I wasn't including that in the verdict.

Remix is such a beast

Nah I notice a very clear difference between the remaster and this.
Ashes and Palaces are OBVIOUSLY their best two by a wide margin, imo
But yeah, Palaces beats it straight through tbh in terms of songwriting, every song here fucking crushes. Ashes still rules, but I'd pick Palaces all day every day

I know it's a skull but the album art always feels like I'm looking at a magic eye poster

"Oh yeah, New American Gospel also fucking rules and is insanely underrated for like no reason"
totally. I get why people critique it, blah blah production this production that. I don't give a shit about production, the power is in the riff, and a lot of the riffs on that album are incredible
