DT definitely weren't one of the first prog metal bands but they played an important part in it's development and helped bring it to the mainstream.

awaken the guardian is a prog metal classic bitch, and the only album i hear a slight power metal influence on is the spectre within, the first record is obv a maiden cover record like most prog metal bands started out doin, and sure their later stuff may be dream theater inspired but their early shit influenced dream theater which is what were on about so :D

and later fates warning better than early? u got shit ass taste

music publication lol its the highest rated on rym and everyone knows rym is fact :D its actually my 2nd fav fates record but to say albums like disconnected and fwx even come close to it is a joke, i suggest you listen to awaken the guardian again without a dick up ur ass and you may get some enjoyment out of it, as its one of the most important albums in the genre :D

it was their first record moving away from the huge maiden influence so was their first true fates album, best vocal performance from arch, huge step up in song writing which was un matched by any prog metal band at the time, only rage for order came close, best riffs ever made ever of ever

dude basically its important because it was the first completely successful prog metal album i cant think of any negatives at all i mean it was 1986, what was around at the time? pretty much fuck all
